Rockin’ the House New Orleans Style
THE SQUIRRELHEADS ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT (EPK)
Founded in 2001, The Squirrelheads are celebrating 25 years of authentic New Orleans funk, boogie-woogie, and Mardi Gras music across Atlanta and the Southeast. The sound draws on the funk of The Meters, the groove of Professor Longhair, and the second-line tradition of Crescent City street parades, delivered by a full band: piano, drums, bass, guitar, horns, and washboard/percussion. A quarter century in, they remain one of the region's most requested party bands — Mardi Gras, transplanted to Georgia.

Long Bio
Founded in 2001, The Squirrelheads are celebrating 25 years as Atlanta and North Georgia's go-to band for authentic New Orleans funk, boogie-woogie, and Mardi Gras music. What started as a handful of musicians chasing the sound of the Crescent City has turned into a quarter century of bringing that Big Easy energy to clubs, festivals, and private events across the Southeast.
Our Sound
The Squirrelheads pull from deep New Orleans roots — the funk of The Meters, the groove of Professor Longhair, the soul of Dr. John, and the second-line street parade tradition that ties it all together. Add in touches of zydeco, a nod to Buckwheat Zydeco, and a handful of danceable classics from the late '70s, and you get a sound that's authentic without being a history lesson — music that gets people moving whether they grew up on it or they're hearing it for the first time.
The signature is that second-line beat, delivered by a full band: piano, drums, bass, guitar, horns, and washboard/percussion. It's Mardi Gras parades, Uptown grooves, and sweaty French Quarter clubs, transplanted to Georgia.
What We Do
The Squirrelheads turn any event into a New Orleans house party. The setlist mixes classic covers with original music built for the genre, and it shifts to match the room, whether that's a festival stage, a club, or a private party. Same band, same sound, same energy, every time.
Twenty-five years in, that's added up to a reputation as one of the most requested party bands in the region, from local venues to major festivals. The history is nice. What matters is the room full of people dancing tonight.
