Hey now! I am the keyboardist and one of the vocalists for The Squirrelheads. Having grown up in Atlanta - and
thanks to a very musical family - I have been exposed to a wide variety of outstanding music. But the two things that influenced me most were my trips to New Orleans at the ripe old age of 17, and my
first Grateful Dead show.
While in New Orleans, I fell in love with the city, the energy and, more importantly, the music.
You can definitely hear this influence in our repertoire. And my first Grateful Dead show simply blew my mind.
I've been playing music since the early 80s - from two-piece acoustic acts to 7-piece bands,
and everything in between. Some of the highlights were the all-original project with singer/songwriter Walter Coward in The Walton James Band, playing around Athens with Dave Miller (who I
still gig with) while attending UGA in the mid 80s, being sponsored by Z-93 in The Fat Mattress Band, "touring" the Southeast with Southern Smoke and being sponsored by Budweiser to play the
Budweiser Stages around Atlanta during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games with Hula Popper.
I know you'll enjoy the booty-shakin' good times of The Squirrelheads. And tell
'em Gordon Solie sent ya.
